The Llanberis Lake Railway is one of the Great Little Trains of Wales. Of 1ft 11½in gauge, it operates between Gilfach Ddu and Penllyn, along two miles of track on the shore of Llyn Padarn (Llanberis Lake) in the heart of Snowdonia, the National Park set in the north west corner of Wales.
The LLR uses part of the trackbed of the former slate railway to Port Dinorwic. Closed coaches - one of which has been adapted for disabled users - are used to carry passengers, through some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in the National Park.
Trains start from Gilfach Ddu for the 40 minute round trip, but on the return journey, there is a stop at Cei Llydan, where passengers may alight for the audio-visual display, nature trail and adventure playground at the Cwm Derwen Woodland Centre.
The Gilfach Ddu terminus is adjacent to the Welsh Slate Museum, which has demonstrations of slate splitting, and exhibitions and displays of machinery and railway equipment of the industry to which many of the Great Little Trains owe their existence.

How to get there

The railway is about a kilometre from the Snowdon Mountain Railway station, just off the A4086 Caernarfon to Capel Currig road. Follow the Parc Padarn signs.
The nearest station on the national railway network is at Bangor, from where Llanberis may be reached by buses via Caernarfon, or a less-frequent direct service from Bangor. In the summer months there is also a direct service from Llandudno, also on the national railway network.
For details of connecting services, including travel planner and timetables, visit the Traveline Cymru website.
