HENRICO COUNTY
Formed in 1634, an original shire (or county). Originally this was the isolated west, an inland County, not on the Tidewater at all; but many settlers found their way into this area through the back door of the York River, its small tributaries and swamps.
The very lengthy Tyree tenure of Davids, Daniels, Benjamins, Richards, and Williams that has been spotlighted here over some 80 years, began in 1720, the year Hanover County was created; although it spread over Henrico, York, New Kent and Hanover Counties, it has been put in the latter County (see page 11).
