Don't put them in water!!.....

Two weeks ago a Chinese friend called me on the phone to tell me they had something special to give me, something to eat. I told them I had school at 10am but if they could make it before then to come over. They did. At about 9:55am she showed up and handed me a moving plastic bag. Inside were two large lobsters, perhaps 4 pounds each. The tails were about 8 inches long. I felt rushed to get to school and as she explained to me (in Chinese) what to do with them I must have missed something. She thought that they would live for 2 days because it was still cooler out. I said thanks and she left. I ran and got a bucket and put in a bit of water and then headed to school. On my way out, Sarah was coming back from school. Needless to say she was a bit uneasy about what was flopping around in the bucket.

I came home at lunch time and we determined that I had killed the lobsters by putting fresh water in the bucket. They are SALT water animals!! Next time don't put them in water! They were still okay to eat, we just had to prepare them and eat them a little sooner than we had anticipated. So much for planning to have friends come over and help us eat them! We had helped a Chinese friend cook a frozen lobster about a year ago. This was different because it was fresh, "almost" live lobster..... As it turned out we made steamed lobster and ate to our fill. That night we had lobster again. The next day we made seafood sub sandwiches... we had had our fill of lobster. We aren't exactly starving over here, eh? :) When you come and visit us we will be sure and buy some lobster for you and put it in salt water, or just refrigerate them until you are ready to eat them! They were mighty tasty!
