The Best Practices Database will be opened as soon as a threshold membership of 100 or more utility experts has been reached (we're only 1/2 way there now). The purpose of the database is to establish a channel for extremely quick answers to questions we all have of one another - questions that can't wait for the next meter reading conference (assuming we can afford to take the time off to attend one).
One contact from each utility with meter readers will be designated as the spokesperson for the USMeterReading website. Any member will be able to pose a question to the entire group for an answer. Answers will be distributed to all spokespersons, either through the moderator or un-moderated. Questions could be asked such as:
Do you read dials from right-to-left or left-to-right
Are meter readers required to carry dog sticks, or is it left to their discretion?
Do you have AMR?
Do you outsource meter reading?
Responses to many anticipated questions, such as those above, may require tabulations to be most effective. I will be glad to summarize answers for you. Or, depending on your input, if you would prefer to just have all answers delivered to all contacts, we could do that. Please state your preference when you sign up. And when you do sign up, please limit expert contacts to one per company. If more than one person per company volunteers, I will send each of you a note and ask for one person to be chosen. In the meantime, please volunteer to be your company's contact here! Submit Utility Contact Form
Whether or not we make answers public on the website - or to utility contacts only - depends upon you. What do you think?
