definition of drama

an original definition by J. E. Brown

drama
n.
  1. Street Definition: A pejorative. A dismissive blanket term for other people's emotions and troubles. Symptomatic of a belief that other people do not have real emotions, and that all displays of emotion are performances, designed to get attention and to manipulate others.

Synonyms: overreacting; imagining things; faking; turning on the water works.

Related Examples: Insensitivity and accusations of fakery seem to be the essence of the mindset:

I remember one time I told someone in a chat room that I have a disability, and he thought I was lying. He accused me of just saying that so the ladies in the chat room would feel sorry for me.

You don't have asthma — you're just not trying to breathe.

    — old wives' tale

Excerpt from my book (in progress)

From the chapter on how to be obnoxious:

When people get stressed out, they sometimes start acting all emotional, as if there were some link between high stress and frayed emotions. Nonsense! Remind these crybabies that they're only acting that way to get attention, and actions are a choice. :^)
