There are 32,000 registered motor vehicles in Albania (capital: Tiräne), and plates seem to be of many different styles and makes. Current private car plates seem to be white on black printed steel flats, but older issues have the red communist stars, as do police vehicle plates. Albanian license plates have always been very difficult to obtain, due to the strained relationship between the US and Albania, but in recent years, things have improved in Albania, and a greater variety of plate s have started showing up in collections.
Albania Police Motorcycle - Embossed and hand
painted steel, received direct from Tiräne to a German collector.
Now in the Drew Steitz collection.
Albania State Government vehicle plate -
Embossed aluminum, from Dürres. This plate is a more current "Post
Communist" era issue, so there are no red stars on the plate. From the
Drew Steitz collection.
