Photographic Tour Coming Soon!!
The Strand is the old section of Downtown Galveston; its buildings date from the middle 1800s up to the early 1900s. The Strand is on the National Register of Historic Places and has one of the finest and largest collections of 19th Victorian architecture in the United States.
Many of the buildings on The Strand have been restored and now house shops, offices, and private residences. There are a number of festivals and public events are held on the Strand, the largest being Mardi Gras in February. The Galveston Mardi Gras is one of the largest Mardi Gras festivals in the United States, outside of New Orleans.
Downtown Galveston is also the hub for the Galveston Trolley System. The trolley's are electric and are fashioned after those used at the turn of the century. They run between downtown and the beach, with plans extend their tracks to the UTMB Medical Complex.
