The E. S. Levy Building
(National Hotel Company Building)
|
Constructed in 1896, this building once housed City National Bank
(now Moody National Bank) and later, the Moody family's National Hotel Company.
In 1900, it also housed the Galveston Weather Office,
made famous during the Great Hurricane.
The National Hotel Company was one of the Moody Family's early business enterprises, managing hotels across the country. Although no longer operating today, the N.H.C. has been replaced by the Gal-Tex Hotel Corporation, another Moody family company, which operates out of the Moody National Bank Building. Also known as the E.S. Levy building, it is currently undergoing restoration and renovation to be turned into apartments and lofts. |
