The Bishop's Palace

Built between 1887 and 1892 for the Walter Gresham family, the Bishop's Palace is an Island Icon. In 1923 the Galveston-Houston Catholic Diocese purchased the home for Bishop C. E. Byrne. He lived in the house until his death in 1950. Today the Bishop's Palace is open to the public as a museum run by the Diocese. It also serves as the residence of the Bishop when he is in Galveston.. The Bishop's Palace is the ONLY structure in the State of Texas on the list of the top 100 Most Significant Architectural Structures in the United States. |
