What is Aikido?

Aikido is a Japanese Martial Art. The literal translation is "The Way in Harmony with the Spirit". Defensive in nature, the style guides an attackers committed momentum into a circular motion that allows the "uke" to be thrown or controlled by his own force. If you are familiar with movies including actor Steven Segal, you have seen applications of this effective art.

The Nihon Goshin curriculum combines traditional Aikido with modernize teaching techniques. In addition, some basic Karate techniques have been blended in, enabling the student to decide when more direct action is necessary to resolve an attack.
