Grandmother visits in Dream

The following is a former winner of the Amazing but Incredibly True Story Contest.

My mother was the only girl  out of five children, and this created a very special bond between her and my grandmother.  My grandmother carefully watched over my mother at all times.  My mother is a person much like her mother, who cares and worries about her family always. In 1988 my grandmother's health began deteriorating due to cancer, and my mother worried a great deal about her and of course, my three siblings and I.

When my grandmother passed away in March of 1989, my mother and her brothers had to make funeral arrangements. Since she and my father were sick and unable work at the time, my mother was worried about paying her end of the funeral expenses and the taxes on her parents' land. She and my father chose to work part time along with my sisters to pay the balance.  In order to pay off the balance, our family had to sacrifice new clothes, dinners out, and any other extra spending. My mother and her brothers unfortunately became distanced  from each other due to the strain of the financial situation.

Months passed and it was November, time for Thanksgiving. The tradition was to have a big dinner at my uncle's place but this year no one made any plans because of the communication gap. A few nights before Thanksgiving, as I fell asleep, I began dreaming a most unusual dream. The dream was about my sister and I, who spent a lot of time with my grandmother before she passed away, walking up to this beautiful golden throne. When we made it to the top of this beautiful marble path which lead to the throne, we saw the hem of a silk gown much like a prom or ballroom gown draping down. When we made it to the thrown we notice that wearing the gold and pearl crown was my grandmother. For some strange reason her eyes were closed. We hugged and kissed her and told her how much we and everyone missed her.

She said, "Ok, my grand babies, sit down and listen to me. I have a message to send to your mother which will stop her from worrying so much. Now you all will not be able to see me but I'm here when you need me." She then went on to say, "Shanda, I want you to tell your mother to call her brothers and have Thanksgiving dinner as usual. It is about time they start speaking to each other again.  I will be there and I'll bring your uncle and I'll even make your stubborn ol' grandfather come too." Last she said, "By the way, tell your mother that if she does this, in a few days she will receive a letter that will take away her financial worry. And tell her to stop the crying because her brother, father and myself are so much happier and suffering no more pain."

At this point, I began crying with tears of joy and this awakened me from this dream. I looked at the alarm clock beside my bed and the time was 5:25 am. I quickly fell back to sleep and my grandmother's angelic voice said, "I'm here, baby."  I immediately opened my eyes again because I felt someone sit down on the end of my bed.  When I looked to see who it was, I did not see anyone, however, I noticed an indention in my bed which was about the width and depth of my grandmother.  I was not scared at all. I ended up falling back into a very peaceful sleep. I awakened a few hours later and told my mother about the dream. She called her brothers and we all had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner!! My aunt called my mother later on that night and told her that she actually saw my grandmother leaving out the back door after everyone left. She described the same gown  which I had seen in my dream and which I never never told anyone about.

Well, a few days later, my mother did receive a check from my grandmother's insurance policy which seemed to be about twice as much as the balance she owed on the funeral arrangements and land taxes.
