Our membership drive has added new families and our visibility in the community has spurred new addresses to pop up on the membership rolls. More and more families have logged in at the lighthouse on its open days, and it has been a pleasure to meet and speak with many of them
We received our grant check for $4000.00 from the New York State Preservation League and it will be used to help defray the cost of an engineering assessment by International Chimney. At present a meeting is scheduled for October 16th at which Park Manager Tom Harris, Joseph Jakubic {consultant] and a representative from the NY State Parks will coordinate plans so that the work may be done this Fall.
Speaking of October, why not join us at 7pm on the 10th for a quick meeting? It will be followed by a Christmas decorating spree in preparation for our Open House and Christmas at the Lighthouse on the 13th. Bring along your Christmas wreaths, candles, tablecloths or lights to make the rooms look festive. Many hands make light work.
Our fundraising efforts have made new items available. Harbor Lights have created miniature Thirty Mile point Lighthouses and they are beautifully detailed. Available for $15.00 apiece, they make terrific Christmas gifts . . . hint, hint!
We also have a beautiful off-white Jerzee sweatshirt {50-50 blend} with our favorite lighthouse embroidered close to the heart. These shirts will first be available at the October 10th meeting. Medium, large and extra large sizes {they are generous} are priced at $28.00 tax included. Size 2X will cost $30.00 tax included.
Do you feel lucky? A generous but anonymous donor has crocheted a beautiful red, white and blue afghan to the Friends for a raffle. We have combined this donation with one of the new Harbor Lights Christmas Ornaments as a second prize. Tickets may be had for a $1.00 donation and will be available from October 10th until our last meeting for 1996 on November 14th, when the raffle will take place.
We hope to see all of you before the year ends! Keep the lights burning!
