Upgrade Patches

Microsoft released a series of "patches" during 1993/1994 that enabled FoxPro developers to upgrade to the newest release. These patches were only used for the purpose of providing minor upgrades and bug fixes, they did not allow you to upgrade to a higher version number (i.e. from 2.5 to 2.6). If you are using FoxPro 2.5 (either DOS or Win), the latest version available is 2.5b. For owners of version 2.6 (DOS or Win), the latest version is 2.6a.

Warning! These upgrade patches will not work if your basic FoxPro files (EXE/ESL) have been altered in any way (i.e. with other patches). You need to apply these upgrade patches before attempting any other FoxPro patch.

If you are not sure which version of FoxPro you are using, any of the following methods will provide the necessary information:

  • From the command window, type ?Sys(2017)
  • From the command window, type ?Version(1)
  • From the FoxPro menu, select Help / About
Note that the opening splash screen for version 2.6a is unchanged from version 2.6, the "a" suffix does not appear on the splash screen. Also, the date and time returned by "Version(1)" will be different from the date/time stamps on your FoxPro files. A list of the original FPW file specs is located here. The appropriate patch files can be found on the following pages:
