THOMPSON, ROBERT J., Corporal, Company E. Mustered December 7, 1861 - April 14, 1865. Became Color Bearer December December 14, 1862, Battle of Kinston, North Carolina when he took the colors from another color guard who dropped it because of instense firing. Held it aloft and waving it where the fire of the enemy was most concentrated. Colors were sent to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in spring of 1864. Captured in Plymouth, North Carolina April 20, 1864 Andersonville Code 40977. In July 4, 1866, bore the colors at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania when they were returned to the custody of the state (now available for viewing in Harrisburg).

TOWNSEND, SIMON P., Captain, Company C. Mustered age 34, September 16, 1861 - July 7, 1862. Brigade inspector of Armstrong County, Pennsylvania two years prior to Civil War. At Battle of Fair Oaks, Seven Pines, Virginia was suffering with illness and did not accompany the men to the picket line evening before the battle. However, did relieve Lt. Fahnestock early in the morning of the battle (May 31, 1862) and had the honor of commanding the advance troops of the Army of the Potomac. Twice sent word to General Casey that the Confederates were advancing. Kept his pickets firing until the Confederates were within a few yards of the position. This caused the pickets to retire quickly despite General McClellan's (who was not near the battle) report that the pickets did not make a stand. Resigned because of illness.
