My Wall
(Winner of International Poetry Corner Contest January '96)
I have a wall
of thoughts and dreams
Bricks of words
Cement moonbeams.
Wall of mine, as you rise
Each day and night is a surprise
Old bricks and beams are garbed anew
Words link and dance the whole day through.
But wither, wall, shall we go?
A wall can block, or it can grow.
Shall we invite, share and listen too?
Or shall we whisper, just me and you.
Let's build a house, of words and dreams
With walls of love and self-esteem
A house whose doors are open wide
But whose walls privacy provide.
We have a house of thoughts and dreams
A house whose walls babble streams
Of moonbeams blowing in the night
Our glowing house of pure delight.

Cry of the She-He
I whistle at the moon, white world beyond, which is me
Spin around the earth in darkness, which is she
Moon maiden and the world, I bemoan
They together, I alone.
Wolf wail in the night,
Eyes red with tears, and fright
I talk tough, language gruff
She-he, it's just not enough.
Moon music, cloud cover me
Writhing wail, she-he, she-he.
Day light I walk, a woman inside
Outside hard, my heart I hide.
I saw a woman with a man
I saw her eyes, I knew her plan
She-she, you have no shame
Together. Alone in my pain.
I want a man a mate
Death is but dignity's fate
White world beyond! Cry my pride!
She-he hide! She-he died.

I am Seen on the Computer Screen
Your glass radiates colored lights
Flushed with thoughts and insights
My heart throbs with joy to see
What you have to say to me.
Dancing words in font finery ablaze
A power to amaze, to daze,
A force to teach, to reach
Technology waves rush the beach.
A computer is a glowing coal
To warm my spirit awake my soul
Type away, fingers fly
The spirit fires for the sky.
I didn't know what I said
Until the box of lights picked up the thread
That wove a garment, of wondrous hue
Trinkets from the deep where the heart pounds true.
My heart and soul speak and tell
The computer because it listens well
Organizing my inner soul
It has no other goal.

I Will Do the Thinking
Wisdom is for the few
Like me,
My thoughts will make you free!
Free from ignorance bliss!
Free from the bible, the abyss!
Free from family, the center of hate.
Free from the past, free from your mate.
I think, therefore I am
I subdue, where I can
I convince the students in my classes
I write books for the masses.
Evil is the Past, Goodness is Me
So I have been told, if I want to be free
I must obey, I must hate
And teach you to serve the state.
If you, like me, go on to teach
And cause suffering from what you preach
And make a world wallow in foolish thoughts
So what? Controlling people is worth the costs!

Please Save My Marriage
My marriage is a fire
To trade insults we never tire
Two good people going bad
How terrible, how sad.
Divorce is far, but near
The path I go is fear
Here I am, but there I go
What is there, I don't know.
If only I could kill you,
I said it, it was true.
The children watch, their faces wet white
Little fingers clenched, jaws silent tight.
Is it better to be away?
Far from taunts, from the fray
Children without a father, different to be sure
Marital discord, is there a cure?
Peace puffs of cloud lit with the glare
Of lightning strikes vicious and unfair
If I look at my child my heart will melt,
Oh, please help.

Mirror, Mirror
Look at me there, I am here
The Mirror image, so bright and clear
Smile and the glass is bright
Frown, what an awful sight.
In between the glimpes I see
A new face, is it me?
Not focused, not seen,
Just there, like a dream.
Is that me? Or am I me?
Am I here to see, or to be?
What's wrong with just a face?
Is not posing a disgrace?
If only I could be
What I am when nobody can see
Myself, alone, to be, free
That is me.
Inner soul, heart inside,
Pure from sight, to pump and hide,
Life is but a dream
A dream of posing, faking, and being seen.

Ocean Pyramid
Surf on a pyramid slanting into the deep
Water walls so steep
Down five hundred feet
The ocean floor and the pyramid meet.
Ocean waves roll up the sides of the thing
What stranger dares to defy the water king
No ship no dam can brave the pull
Of ocean currents with power full.
Come to me foaming waves
I'll eat you in my tunnel caves
Down you go crash my guts
The generator sighs as it sups.
Pyramid off New York sea
What can you do for me?
Crushing ocean with its might
Powers on our machines and lights.
Think and it is yours
Pyramid wonder cures
Energy hunger with ocean power
Endless force through a hidden tower.

Fear and Peace
I chant "peace"
You shout "war"
I say "stop"
You say "more."
Here's the line
Cross and die
Peace is fine
Until violence flies.
If I don't fight
You will kill
Conquer, Maim
and have your fill
Is peace the slaughter of the lamb?
Is peace the surrender of my land?
Is peace glory to the brute?
There will be peace, or I will shoot.
Peace is a bullet never fired.
Peace is armies never tired.
Peace is dignity alert.
War is when we fear to hurt.

A Dry Summer's End
It rained but once in summer's dry spell
The skies were bright brass, dust fell
but not rain, into fissures scratched deep
into empty lakes by the constant heat.
Gone are the fish, the gentle flow
Of the brooks, lakes and ducks flying low
To brake on air and touch water white
To swim and feed and resume their flight.
Clouds on blue glass, white even gray
Holding back for another day
We watch and wait and pray
Raindrops on the way.
Run in the rain, dry skin sore for soft
Soothing storm sky with clouds aloft
Floating in flashing fire bleeding gusts of rain
Thunder roars to ease our pain.

Goodby to Bob
I came at the invitation of your wife
As you lay blind clinging to life
I held your hand, you asked about the soul
How long does it take to find its goal.
Such weak fingers, so strong their stroke
Demands for answers, I can only grope
To answer you, and what I say
Springs from my heart as I pray.
Your wife chose you and left her fold
Her family, everyone and now behold
Her face, wanting nothing but your comfort dear
Which drives away tomorrow's fear.
We spoke Bob, until I found
Words expressed without a sound
Around them furled
The Glory of a better world.
Rocking back and forth your soul starts to fly
As your body prepares to die
I won't forget your struggling soul
The fiery torch of a Higher Goal.
