Hola, Todos:
I am in the process of trying to get examples of how to count compas for interested aficionados up on the Web. Currently I am using the TrueSpeech format, since it seems to be the one most easily supported on the Web. The format uses compression; and initial file sampled at 8 Khz, which is then itself compressed, so the sound quality is not great but hopefully enough to understand the content as it relates to the Compas Analysis; the file's small size means I can get a lot of information out from my Web site (and you won't spend as much time downloading the files, if that is what you have to do). The theory is that you should be able to hear the music in real time as the file comes in, but it may not work that way (life's like that too..........)
In any case, the TrueSpeech player can be downloaded from http://www.dspg.com/; the files have a *.tsp extension which point to the *.wav file with the actual audio. Note that this is not a standard Windows *.wav file, and has to be played with the TrueSpeech Player (Sound Recorder or Media Player will play the file under Win95). True Speech supports MacIntosh platforms as well; check their web page. I have gotten the player or Win3.1 to work (very sporadically), but not the Win95. I think it may depend on which server you're logged into at aol; some servers (which are invisible to us) seem to accept the .tsp format, and others not.
To enter this format in your browser, look under options to find the list of viewers your browser supports. The MIME type for TrueAudio is application/dsptype and the viewer is the *.exe file you downloaded.
Depending on your platform and the whims of AOL, you might get a message that your browser can't find the service, or your browser might just exhibit the text content of the .tsp file. In that case, download the file with the same name, but a .wav extension from the site (enter the URL and filename, and your browser may go into download mode, or at least play the file). Then you can play the file from your hard disk.
All of this is in a state of flux, and if things don't work try what you can think of, and send me a message at BuleriaChk@aol.com. I may be able to help, but if not, you may get some sympathy......
Actually, (relevant) suggestions would be warmly appreciated as well.......
Good luck, and good hunting......
